Hi. My name is Jill Nelson and I am the Elementary School Counselor for South Putnam Schools. I became the elementary school counselor in October, 2019. I am a former special education teacher. I earned my Bachelor's degree from Indiana State University. I have a Master's degree from Olivet Nazarene University. I earned a second Master's degree in School Counseling from Southeastern Oklahoma State University. I have 24 years teaching experience. I am a member of the American School Counselors Association (ASCA) and the Indiana School Counselors Association (ISCA). I am also a member of the Indiana School Safety Academy.
My school counseling program follows the four components of the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) model. These components include foundation, management, delivery, and accountability. Foundation means the school counselor will focus lessons following the ASCA mindset and behavior standards to promote student success. Management means the planning of the school counseling program. This includes scheduling lessons, programs, and lesson planning. Delivery is referring to the direct and indirect services the school counselor provides. Some of these services include monthly classroom lessons, individual counseling, group counseling referrals, and collaboration with teachers. Accountability means the school counselor collects and presents data on the effectiveness of the counseling program.
